Obituary

Scott Ousley, 23, of Rehoboth, MA, passed away as a result of a motorcycle accident, June 23, 2020. He was the beloved son of Edward and Lynn (Benoit) Ousley. Scott was an avid fisherman who loved to be on the boat in the fresh, clean water, and enjoyed the sun on his face. Scott was ambitious and driven to accomplish his goals. He had a zest for life and indulged in the finer aspects that life had to offer. Scott was very strong-willed and equally protective of his family. Through tribulations, he remained close and connected to his family members.  He enjoyed being surrounded by young kids and enjoyed teaching them to love the water and fishing as much as he did. Scott will also be remembered for being a very loyal friend to many.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his brother, Sean Ousley, his paternal grandmother, Delores Law, his maternal grandmother, Solange Benoit, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was the grandson of the late, Edward Ousley Sr., and the late Robert Benoit.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Visiting hours Tuesday from 4-8 PM in the Costigan-O'Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket. Due to the current restrictions, guests will be allowed into the funeral home as space allows, face masks and social distancing will be required. A Mass of Christian Burial will be video live streamed Wednesday at 10 AM, and can be seen right here on Scott's obituary page.

The following beautiful eulogy was heard at Scott's Funeral Mass, written by his cousin, Kristal Glaude:

We are here today to share in our grief for the loss of Scott's life and to celebrate the man he was… He was a beloved son, a little brother, a nephew and a loyal friend. No matter what your relationship to Scott, this loss is sudden and painful to bear.

When thinking of standing here before you, I was puzzled with questions about what to talk about. Do I talk about the grief, the pain, the questions we all have…? It all felt very somber and sad. But that's not who Scott was. Scott was happy and living life fully- on his own terms. So I'm going to choose to focus on that today.

Scott was smart, funny, motivated, loyal and kind. He set the standards for his life and worked relentlessly to achieve them; we know this because of his tireless work ethic, his entrepreneurship, and his healthy obsession with Louis Vuitton and the other finer things life had to offer. If he wanted it, he got it…

But Scott wasn't only about the material 'stuff…'

We know this because he loved his family fiercely in his own way, and he loved his circle friends like family, too. His friends shared with us that outside of being an awesome friend, he took any opportunity he could to help others, lend them hand, and help push them in the right direction. It's just the type of guy Scott was.

And as for his life- well, we all know Scott loved to live in the moment. He was fearless and lived his life fearlessly. He lived in each moment and never let the chance for a thrill or some fun to pass him by. His energy couldn't let him. He was unapologetically HIMSELF.

If Scott were here today, he wouldn't want us questioning the what if's, to be sad or full of regret… thinking about the past, what was and what could have been. He would want us to think about the future, think about what we wanted in and out of our lives, and he would want us to go out and get it with tenacity. He would want us to carry out our lives in the way he lived his-- doing everything and anything it took to be happy.

So as we leave here today, and bring Scott to his final resting place, I challenge YOU to never rest.

Set goals and achieve them. Work hard and never make excuses. Be Happy. Enjoy your life and what it had has to offer. When you see a chance to help somebody, do it. Because if Scott were here with us today, he'd be doing the SAME- EXACT- THING.

Stay lite. Stay fit. Stay Motivated.
