Obituary

Thomas J. Martitz of Cumberland, died peacefully on January 22, 2025 at the age of 80. Tom, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, will be dearly missed.

Born in Pawtucket to Mildred (Ashburn) and Edward N. Martitz Sr., Tom graduated from Attleboro High School in 1964 before proudly serving his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he embarked on a lifelong career as a tractor-trailer driver, becoming a valued member of Teamsters Local 251 and working for D & N Transportation of North Smithfield until his retirement in 2004. Retirement allowed him to enjoy many happy travels and cruises with his wife and friends.

Tom was a man of diverse interests. He enjoyed music, dancing, casinos, card games, and spending time with his family, including all of his nieces and nephews. He was also a passionate outdoorsman, finding joy in gardening, landscaping, chopping wood, fishing, and hunting.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Doris (St. Hilaire) Martitz; his daughters, Debra Vieira (Paulo) and Julie Hulme (James); his brother, Richard Martitz; and his grandchildren, Christopher Henry, Samantha Henry,  Elyse Vieira, and Emily Vieira. He was predeceased by his siblings, Edward N. Martitz Jr. and Jane Martitz.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Tom's honor on Friday, February 7th, beginning at 9:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at O'Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.
