It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stephen "Steve" Romano, 74, of Coventry, who left us on August 3, 2026. Born on September 25, 1951, he lived the majority of his life in Cranston, Rhode Island. Stephen was the son of the late Columbo and Dorothy (Verdone) Romano.

Stephen was a graduate of Cranston East High School class of 1969. For nearly three decades he worked for the State of Rhode Island at Eleanor Slater Hospital. Steve held different roles, many of those years Steve served as the president of the AFSCME Union Local 1350. Steve found joy in tending to his yard and flowers, often listening to music in the yard. He was known for his culinary skills, sharing his love of cooking and baking through making cakes for countless weddings and birthday celebrations. His sense of humor was one of a kind, his quick wit and dry sense of humor will be missed. When he was able, he loved hitting the open road on his motorcycle. He leaves behind his children, Stephen and his wife Beth of Riverside, and Suzanne MacDonald and her husband Matthew of Cranston. Steve was the proud Papa to his granddaughters, Emma and Madeline. He also leaves his brother Robert (Joan) and sister Annette (Vincent) Cerilli of Cranston, many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Stephen was predeceased by his nephew, Kyle Cerilli.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support they have received during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Stephen's memory to the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), honoring his lifelong love and compassion for animals.

One of Steve's favorite sayings was "It's not about the journey, but the destination." While his journey with us has ended, may he rest in eternal peace.
