Sister Genevieve Lawler, OCD, of the Carmelite Monastery in Barrington passed peacefully into eternal life on December 16, 2023, a few weeks after her 90th birthday. Born in Georgia to Leo and Mary Lawler, Sister Genevieve of Our Lady of Good Counsel (Lucille Lawler) solemnly professed her vows in May 1959. She lived a contemplative life as a Sister of the Order of Discalced Carmelites in Barrington for almost 50 years, until the monastery's closing in late 2020.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Luke's Church, Barrington, RI on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Calling hours will be prior to the Mass, from 10:00-11:00 AM in St. Luke's Church.
