Ruth L. Forrand, 66, of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side, in the early morning hours of January 4, 2025, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. Born in Boston, she was the oldest child of the late John and Phyllis (Anderson) Stranahan. She grew up in Newton Upper Falls, MA where she attended 2nd Baptist Church and graduated from Newton South High School in 1976. Shortly after graduating she enlisted in the MA Army National Guard, serving for 29 years and retiring as a Staff Sergeant. Ruth was a long-time employee of Sensible Computer in Attleboro, MA.
In 2003, she married her husband David Forrand and settled in Pawtucket, RI. Ruth had numerous hobbies, but loved genealogy, painting and photography. Ruth attended classes at, and became a member of, the Rhode Island Watercolor Society. Ruth also made a trip to Ireland to connect with cousins and expand her genealogical research.
Besides her husband David, Ruth leaves her brother Bill Stranahan and his wife Tracy, her sister Carla Di Ciaccio and her husband Ray, her sister Karen Forsythe and her husband Tray, and her sister Jane Remington and her husband Carl, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, January 12th from 2:00 - 4:00 PM, with a service to follow in the Manning-Heffern-O'Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket.
A Burial with Military Honors will be on Monday, January 13th at 10:45 AM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave, Buzzards Bay, MA 02542.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Ruth's name can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
