Obituary

Roxana "Roxy" (Lemos) Thomas, 67, of Pawtucket, passed away at Hope Hospice on December 1, 2023 from complications of pancreatic cancer. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Roger and Virginia (Hines) Lemos.

Roxy was a cheerleader for and graduate of East Providence High School, where she met her high school sweetheart and husband of 44 years, Bruce Thomas. She earned a degree in home economics from the University of Maine at Farmington, where she made lasting friendships and memories best recounted with riotous laughter.

She went on to impact many young lives through her career as a kindergarten and preschool teacher at St. Leo's in Pawtucket and For Pete's Sake Preschool in South Attleboro. A lifelong volunteer, Roxy at times served as Girl Scout leader, Hope Hospice greeter, Camp Braveheart counselor, and activity mat seamstress for the VA. Her calendar was almost as full as her heart, but she always managed to find time for knitting with friends and spending time with her family at Briggs Beach and on Prudence Island.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Julee (and her husband, Patrick Boland, of Ann Arbor, MI), and Jennifer (and her partner, George Grzyb, of Plymouth, NH). She is also survived by her brother, Roger Lemos, and a wide and strong network of extended family and friends.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, December 6th at 11:00 AM in Saint Margaret Church, 1098 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. The Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, December 5th, from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Manning-Heffern-O'Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Roxana's memory be directed to Dr. Raufi's GI Cancer Research Fund at The Miriam Hospital, dedicated to preventing pancreatic cancer. Gifts can be made online by clicking here: Support The Miriam Hospital , or by mailing a check payable to The Miriam Hospital Foundation at PO Box H, Providence, RI 02901.
