Rose Marie Emma (Poulin) Silva, 94, passed peacefully, at Saint Antoine Residence in North Smithfield, RI, surrounded by her family on February 3, 2024. Born in Pawtucket, RI on December 12, 1929, Rose was the daughter of the late Pierre Poulin and Regina (St. Jean) Poulin, and granddaughter of the late David and Euphemie (Fortin) St. Jean and the late Pierre and Emma (Fournier) Poulin. Rose was the beloved wife of the late Albano (Al) Silva for 69 years to whom she married on November 11, 1948 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Central Falls, RI.
Rose was a devoted wife and a loving, giving and kindhearted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, and she cherished her time with family. Rose had the patience and compassion of a saint, she was nonjudgmental, and she had a warm and welcoming smile for all. Rose was a devout Catholic with a strong belief in God and the power of prayer, which she thread throughout her daily life.
In earlier years, Rose was a garment worker in the sewing industry at Standard Romper Co. where she met, Al, the love of her life. She and Al later owned and operated Rosal, Inc., a manufacturer of College Town and Villager women's sportswear in Rhode Island until their retirement in 1988. Rose also served as a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Theresa's Church and she was an active member of La Salette Shrine where she enjoyed attending prayer group, religious retreats and volunteering with Al at the festivals.
Rose raised her family of five sons and resided in South Attleboro for 50 years. She enjoyed summers at the Poulin family beach house at Buttonwoods in RI, and spent later years with Al wintering at their home in Brooksville, Florida and eventually moving to Montgomery, Alabama. Rose returned home to Rhode Island in her later years.
Rose will be sorely missed and remembered by all whose lives she touched. She is survived by her sons and their spouses: Mark and Lynell Silva of Alabama, Steven and Cheryl Silva of Florida, Michael Silva of South Attleboro, John and Gail Silva of South Attleboro, Alan and Brenda Silva of South Attleboro; 14 grandchildren: Matthew (Jessica) Silva, Amy (Justin) Cole, Stacey (Jay) Pigford, Jennifer (Derek) Bennett, Corey Shea Silva, Brittany (Richard) Giraldo, Sarah (Nicholas) Lajoie, Aaron (Stephany) Silva, Jeremy (Stephanie) Silva, Joshua Silva, Jessica (Pierre) Coirier, Jaime (Joseph) Hernandez, Jillian (Mathew) King, Austin Silva; 28 great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Olinda Murphy of South Attleboro and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her beloved husband, Albano, Rose is predeceased by her brothers David Poulin, Alfred Poulin, Gerard Poulin and her sisters Terese McManus, Louise Domenici, Gloria Auclair and daughter-in-law Mary Ann Silva.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all at The Lighthouse in Lincoln, RI, Saint Antoine Residence in North Smithfield, RI, and Hope Health Hospice for their loving, warm and compassionate care of Rose.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus Church, 18 Baltic Street, South Attleboro, MA. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket, RI. Visitation is respectfully omitted.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rose's name to the Alzheimer's Association , Hope Health Hospice in Rhode Island , or to Catholic Charities USA .
