Roger R. Ferland, 91, of Attleboro, MA. passed away peacefully on Monday, April 05, 2021. He was tenderly cared for by a compassionate staff at Madonna Manor in North Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Reddington) Ferland. They were happily married for 69 years. Born in Pawtucket, RI. He was the youngest child of the late Omer and Agnes Douville Ferland. Roger graduated from St. Raphael Academy, Providence College and University of RI. Masters of Education Program. He was an educator in Pawtucket teaching 6 th grade at East Avenue School and later serving as principal at Henry J. Winters and Potter-Burns Schools. He retired in 1984. He is survived by his children: Maureen (William) Foster, Janice (David-deceased) Spillman, Robert (Maria) Ferland, Mark (Lilian) Ferland, daughter-in-law Linda Ferland. Roger had 8 grandchildren: Kaitlin Grenier, Danielle Kennedy, Kellen Spillman, Ashlyn Owens, James Ferland, Taja Ray DelGreco, Riva Lee Ferland, and Abby Kochalka. He also leaves behind 4 great grandchildren: Andrew Grenier, Kinsley Kennedy, Piper and Pierce Owens. He is predeceased by sons-in-law Stephen Kellogg, David Spillman and grandchildren Daniel Kellogg and Marissa Spillman. Roger is predeceased by his 9 brothers: Dr. Darius, Br. Sebastian, Rev. Ernest, Rev. Oscar, Lionel, Andrew, Maurice, Eugene, Marcel and 2 sisters Theresa Langlois and Christine Fesik. Roger, an avid sports fan, loved to watch the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and Providence College Basketball. He was a golfer and tennis player and played both sports into his 80s. His biggest sports thrills were playing golf at Pebble Beach and going to Notre Dame University to a football game. Roger fully enjoyed his 36 years of retirement with Barbara spending winters in Florida and traveling around the world. Roger and Barbara's most spectacular trip was visiting Singapore, Bali, and Hong Kong for their 50 th wedding anniversary. His happiest days were at his summer home, The Seakonk, in Ocean Park, Maine with Barbara and many other family and friends. He loved his daily tennis round robins and the special comradery with other tennis "legends". Roger spent many summer days walking on the beach and playing in the sand with children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He always enjoyed the annual 4 th of July parade and cookout with family and friends as a summer highlight. Roger always told everyone in Ocean Park that happy hour on the porch at the Seakonk starts exactly at 5:00 when the "Happy Hour Bells" ring.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Friday, April 9 th in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Coyle Drive, Seekonk, MA at 10:00 AM. The mass will be lived-streamed on the funeral home website. The burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, in Pawtucket. Visiting hours Thursday from 4-7 PM in Costigan- O'Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket. Social distancing and face masks are required.
