Richard Toofik Nahas of Cumberland, passed into eternal life on April 28, 2026. He was the husband of the late Barbara Mary (Chlebek) Nahas. Richard was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Toofik Nahas and Nora (Gosen) Nahas.
Richard met his wife of 53 years while working at Slater Park. They both grew up in Pawtucket and lived there for many years before moving to California. They had a strong bond and worked through the trials and tribulations of life always remaining a family.
He is survived by his daughters, Kim Ann Downing, Lisa Marie Nahas, and Sharon Nora Nahas. He was the father of the late Richard Toofik Nahas Jr.
Richard was a graduate of Tolman High School and earned a Degree in Engineering and Mathematics from the University of Rhode Island. He was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. Richard started a career with FM (formerly Allendale Insurance) as a Fire Protection Engineer and relocated to the San Francisco office where he held different positions in Sales and Management. After several years he decided to leave FM for an opportunity to start Sherwood Insurance Services where he worked as an Insurance Broker. After living in California for over 20 years, he and his family moved back to Rhode Island and he accepted a position with FM to continue his over 25 year career with the company. He retired as Vice President, Brokerage Operations Manager of CIS, FM’s wholly owned brokerage operation. He loved his career and spoke of it often including all his friends, colleagues and clients.
Even with all the time and effort he put into his career he was always there for his family and loved them more than anything. He enjoyed family vacations to Disneyland, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Newport, and Lake Winnipesaukee. He also had an adventurous side hitch hiking to the Seattle World's Fair with a friend from college.
To all that knew Richard they would attest he was honest, had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh and you could always count on him.
He will be eternally loved and missed.
