Obituary

Raymond Robert Zangari, 77, of Barrington, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 9, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Carol (Larkin) Zangari. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rose (DePardo) Zangari. Raymond joined the army in 1962 and was stationed in Berlin, Germany from 1962-1965. After his military service, Raymond moved to Florida and worked in the landscaping business for many years. It was there that he devised a method of teaching English as a second language. Raymond taught English in Miami, Florida and later volunteered teaching English when he returned to Rhode Island in the early 2000's. Raymond, was a resident of Barrington and a communicant at Saint Luke's Church. He and his wife Carol enjoyed volunteering, mission work, and caring for the 39 children they fostered. Raymond retired in 2020 after serving the Carmelite Sisters of Barrington for over ten years. He was their devoted caretaker and groundskeeper and saw to their many needs.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children: Rose Olivia Zangari, Joseph Zangari, and Abdiel Isaac-Dias Zangari, his sister, Carol Zangari of Tiverton, his three brothers, Mario Zangari and wife Patricia of Saunderstown, Edward Zangari and wife Rosalie of Smithfield, and Kenneth Zangari and his wife Gisele of West Greenwich. His sense of loyalty and love for his family was evident in all his interactions. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, May 14th at 1:00 PM at Saint Luke's Church, 108 Washington Road, Barrington, Rhode Island. Burial with military honors will be held Monday, May 16th at 11:00 AM in the Chapel at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Tail, East Providence, Rhode Island.

Visiting hours are on Saturday from 12:30 – 1:00 PM, prior to the Mass at Saint Luke's Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation , 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 500, Chicago, IL 60611, in memory of Raymond, would be greatly appreciated.
