Raymond H. Johnston Jr., 61, of Pawtucket, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, November 23, 2021. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Raymond and Maureen (Doherty) Johnston. A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, Ray was involved in many organizations throughout the city. He was the president of Pineview Little League, assistant district administrator of Little League Baseball in Rhode Island, he volunteered at the Pawtucket Boys and Girls Club, Pawtucket Youth Soccer, and St. Leo's CYO Basketball. He was a former member of Pawtucket Elks Lodge and was a current member of the Attleboro Elks Lodge as well. He was an avid fan of the Celtics, Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins, and the Providence College Friars. He enjoyed the low numbered license plates of RI and could talk about the subject for hours. He graduated from Saint Raphael Academy and went on to attend Roger Williams University where he received a degree in Criminal Justice. He began working at the ACI before starting his law enforcement career with the Pawtucket Police Department for 28 years, retiring with the rank of detective in 2016. Ray was also was involved in politics, representing District 61 in the House of Representatives from 2011-2020 where he was Deputy Majority Leader. He was proud of his Irish heritage and loved his corn beef sandwiches that were a staple of his parent's annual St. Patrick's Day gathering. He had a love for riding motorcycles and would spend hours riding the open roads. He loved coaching and supporting his son Ray in his sports, life and academics. He will be remembered for his generosity and caring personality, always lending a hand whenever he could. He loved skiing, bowling, going to the beach, camping at Fisherman's in Narragansett and most of all, the time he spent with his family, especially his son, Ray. Besides his son Ray, he is survived by his siblings, Laurie Boisclair, Paul "PJ" Johnston, Kerrin Mitchell, and Michael Johnston. He was the brother of the late Kenneth Johnston.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, November 27 th at 10 AM in Saint Teresa Church, 358 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket.
Burial will follow in Mount Saint Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.
Visiting hours Friday from 4-7 PM in the Costigan-O'Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket.
