Porfirio R. Dacanay Jr., 79, of Pawtucket, died on November 12th at Miriam Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Jean (Flynn) Dacanay. Born in Urdaneta, Philippines, he was the son of the late Porfirio and Alvava (Rosal) Dacanay.
Porfirio was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of St. John's #1 Lodge as a Master Mason. He was also a member of the Legion of Honor as a Shriner.
Porfirio was a Senior Product Safety Technician for Hasbro for more than thirty-two years before retiring.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter Jennifer Pestonit and her husband Luis of Winter Park, Florida. He also leaves his beloved granddaughters Jackelyn Dacanay and Alexa Benjamin of Pawtucket. He was the beloved brother of Delia Valena and Celeste Olivar of the Philippines, Melba Bello of Pawtucket, Elizabeth Angud and Joji Dacanay of Oxnard, California. He also leaves two brothers, Percy Dacanay of Seekonk and Danilo Dacanay of Oxnard, California. He was the brother of the late Renerio Dacanay, Matthew Dacanay, Loreto Antonio and Nida Sison. He leaves several nieces and nephews in the U.S. and the Philippines.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 10:00 AM in St. John Paul II Church, 755 Central Avenue, Pawtucket. Burial with military honors will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, November 18th from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Manning-Heffern-O'Neill Funeral Home 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Disabled American Veterans , 360 Westminster Street, Providence, RI, 02903, in memory of Porfirio, would be greatly appreciated.
