Paul Andrew Tucker, 87, of Smithfield, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2026. He was the beloved husband of the late Brenda (Clausen) Tucker. Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Andrew and Margaret (McConaghy) Tucker.
Paul was a proud graduate of Cumberland High School, where he distinguished himself as a talented athlete on both the basketball and baseball teams. Following graduation, he honorably served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Salamonie AO-26, a Cimarron-class fleet oiler.
After his military service, Paul attended Providence College, graduating with the Class of 1965. During his years there, he was deeply involved in campus life, including serving as President of the Friars Club during his senior year. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor degree from Suffolk University Law School in 1968.
Paul began his professional career as an attorney and later served as a probate judge in East Providence. His entrepreneurial spirit and leadership eventually led him into the banking industry, where he founded Anawon Trust in Attleboro, Massachusetts. Serving as President and Director from 1990 to 2009, Paul earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and community members alike.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Paul’s greatest pride was his family. He shared a close and loving relationship with his daughter, Liz. He was a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren, Nicole and Grant, rarely missing an opportunity to support them at school functions or cheer them on at games, races, and other events throughout the years. His love, encouragement, and steady presence will remain a cherished memory for his family, friends, and colleagues, who will carry him in their hearts always.
Paul also believed deeply in giving back to the community. Throughout his life, he dedicated countless hours to nonprofit and civic organizations. He served as both board member and President of Blackstone Valley ARC and was actively involved with the American Cancer Society (Attleboro unit), Annie Maxim House, Attleboro United Way, and AEI of North Attleboro. He was also a longtime member of the Attleboro Rotary Club. In his leisure time, Paul enjoyed golfing and maintained many treasured friendships through his longtime membership at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Liz Mayer, and her husband, Chris; his cherished grandchildren, Nicole and Grant Mayer; and his siblings, Peter Tucker and his wife Janet, Andrew Tucker and his wife Linda, Terry Tucker and his wife Cathy, Phillip Tucker, and Andrea Murray. He was predeceased by his brothers Joseph, Steven, and Thomas Tucker.
Paul will be remembered for his integrity, generosity, devotion to family, and unwavering commitment to serving others. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched through his kindness, leadership, and love.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Funeral Service on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the O’Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Burial will be private.
