Norman A. Tougas
May 2, 1935 - July 6, 2026
Norman A Tougas, 91, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026 leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, faith, and family. Born in Central Falls, RI, Norman spent most of his life in Cumberland where he built a life centered on the values that mattered most to him.
For 40 wonderful years, Norman shared his life with his beloved wife, Gloria, who preceded him in death. Together they created a home filled with love, laughter and lasting memories. He was also predeceased by his parents Leo and Jeanette (Moreau) Tougas, and all of his siblings: Alfred Tougas, Estelle Fougere, Muriel Turgeon, Gerard Tougas, and Madeleine Tougas.
Norman proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed in France and used his fluency in French as an interpreter for the US military. Following his military service, he enjoyed a distinguished career of 38 years with Underwriter Laboratories as an electrical inspector and field supervisor earning the respect of his colleagues through his integrity, dedication, and work ethic.
A devoted Catholic, Norman was a faithful communicant of St Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church in Cumberland, where he generously served as a Eucharistic Minister and volunteered with the parish CCD program. His faith was not simply something he practiced on Sundays- it guided the way he lived every day.
If Norman had a motto it was his famous “Three F’s”; Family, Faith and Friends. Those weren’t just words to him, they were the foundation of his life. He cherished his family above all else, treasured his lifelong friendships (especially his Spumoni’s gang) and found strength and purpose through his faith.
Norman will be remembered as a man whose joy was contagious. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a quick smile and an uncanny ability to make people feel welcome. He found happiness in life's simple pleasures: gathering around the table with family, sharing stories over dinner at his favorite restaurant Kays, cheering on his beloved New England sports teams, faithfully enjoying his daily 2 pm Manhattan cocktail, challenging himself with crossword puzzles and relaxing to the melodies of the French music he loved.
Though he lived modestly and believed in being frugal, Norman's generosity knew no bounds. He gave freely of his time, his encouragement, and his heart. Whether helping a friend, volunteering at church or simply making someone laugh, he quietly made the lives of those around him better.
Above all, Normie was a family man. He is survived by his loving sons, Steven Tougas and his wife Karen, Richard Tougas and his wife Karen, Allen Tougas and his wife Carlean. He was the proud Pépère of Trent Tougas and his fianceé Kelly Jacques, Ryan Tougas, Jonathan Tougas and his fiancee Sarah Olearnick, Nathan Tougas, and Aelyn Tougas. Nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with the family he loved so deeply.
While his family mourns his passing, they also celebrate a life beautifully lived; a life filled with kindness, laughter, unwavering faith and unconditional love. His example reminds us that life’s greatest riches are not measured by what we possess, but by the people we love, the faith we keep and the friendships we cherish.
Family and friends are kindly invited to a committal service with military honors on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at 10:30 AM at Resurrection Cemetery Chapel, 261 West Wrentham Road, Cumberland, Rhode Island.
