She was born on October 27, 1924, in Volyn, Ukraine, to her loving parents, Pantelejmon and Vasylyna (Klynova). During the turmoil of World War II, Nina was forced to flee her homeland, eventually finding refuge in Austria. It was there, at the University of Innsbruck, that she met her beloved husband, Jaroslaw. The two were married in 1948 and soon after began a new chapter together, immigrating to the United States in 1949 and settling in Rhode Island in 1950.

Nina dedicated her life to her family as a full-time mother and homemaker, raising three children—Sonia, Peter, and Andrew—with unwavering love, strength, and devotion. She was a deeply faithful woman and an active member of St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, where she built lasting friendships and remained committed to her Ukrainian heritage and community.

In 2022, Nina relocated to Lakeland, Florida, where she spent her final years surrounded by family. In 2024, she joyfully celebrated her 100th birthday with extended family and received special recognition, including personal congratulations from the President of the United States and the Governor of Florida.

Nina was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Jefim, Arkady, and Lawro; and her beloved husband, Jaroslaw.

She is survived by her cherished children: Sonia Troiano and her husband Nicholas of Lakeland, FL; Peter Koropey and his wife Caren of Winter Haven, FL; and Andrew Koropey and his wife Bettina of Cohasset, MA. She also leaves behind her loving grandchildren: Christopher Troiano, Nicholas Troiano, Alexandra and Travis Jacklin, Adam Koropey, and Reid Koropey, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 7, at St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Burial will follow on Wednesday, April 8, at St. Andrew Memorial Church in South Bound Brook, New Jersey.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nina’s memory to St. Mary Protectress Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, 245 Lake McCoy Drive, Apopka, FL 32712.
