Michael F. Thayer

Michael F. Thayer, 69, of Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Pamela (Flynn) Thayer, loving father to his children Alexander (Lily), and Julie and her husband Michael Zerdelian, and cherished grandfather to Adaline and Sosi. He was younger brother to Diane, and brother-in-law to her wife Lenore Lyons, Kathleen McIlmail and her husband Billy, and Vincent Flynn and his partner Laurissa Burns.

Born in Brockton, MA, Michael was the son of the late Arthur and Connie (Favitta) Thayer. He attended Brockton High School, often recalling with fondness his days as a part of the football and track and field teams. He graduated from Boston University, where he studied business administration, and it was here he met Pamela. They shared 50 years of love and friendship, creating happy homes in Brockton, Pawtucket, Seekonk, and Attleboro, and spending their summers on Newfound Lake. Michael was a deeply caring, supportive father to his children, and a doting Papa to “his girls.”

Michael had many career interests, which he followed confidently. After creating a successful business, Thayer Disposal, with his father, he went on to work in the insurance industry for many years before spending his pre-retirement years as a tile installer. Alongside that, he followed his creative passions throughout his life, acting on stage and screen, playing his guitar, and singing as a vocalist individually and with the RI-based Night Life Orchestra. He was also a longtime member of the St. Margaret Church choir. He was always busy with a project - tinkering with his boat, painting or rebuilding something at home, or tending to his yard. He loved to connect with everyone he met, learning about their lives, and was quick to offer his guidance and encouragement, and he never met a dog he didn’t love. He faced his five-year illness with ALS with determination and an unfailingly positive attitude, just as he lived the rest of his life.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to visiting hours on Friday, July 24th from 4:00 - 7:00 PM in the Manning-Heffern-O’Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 11:00 AM in Saint Margaret Church, 1098 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. 

The burial will be private. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Compassionate Care ALS (CCALS) or Old Colony Hospice.
