Obituary

Michael W. Crimmins, 58, of Cumberland RI, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017.  He was the son of Daniel M. Crimmins and the late Barbara (Davis) Crimmins. Devoted husband of Kerin (Maginnis) Crimmins.  Loving father of three sons: Jonathan and Michael, both of Boston, and Matthew (fiance Michaela Morgan) of Wakefield, RI.  Brother of Daniel D. Crimmins and Kenneth Crimmins and wife Julie, all of Aiken , SC.

Michael graduated from Cumberland High School in 1976 where he was the President of his senior class, and an outstanding wrestler and football player.  Most memorable was his RI Interscholastic record for scoring 7 touchdowns in one game.  Coaches described him as "everything you would want in a player and a person."

Michael attended Norwich University earning a BS degree in 1980, and continued on to receive his Masters Degree in Education, Magna Cum Laude in 1981. Continuing his successful football career at Norwich, he was named MVP on Offense his senior year, and held a 17 touchdown in a season record that was untouched for 34 years.  Michael was inducted in the NU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.  His coach described him as "One of a kind, Mike has something extra: determination, just incredible determination."

Michael took that determination and poured it into his career of 35 years as a manager in the nuclear submarine building industry at General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division.

Michael and Kerin raised their three sons in Saratoga Springs, NY for 25 years before returning to RI in 2012. He was a family man first who worked countless hours at his job but always made it a priority to be on the sidelines of his sons' numerous athletic events either as a coach or proud father. A sports enthusiast, he enjoyed coaching Saratoga Youth Lacrosse and Pop Warner Football for many years. He also enjoyed skiing, camping and hiking with his family and friends. Every weekend Mike could be seen working tirelessly to bring his lawn to perfection, but never without stopping to wave at or greet each passing neighbor.

Michael loved his people and had many that would consider him their best friend. He loved his wife and boys, his parents and brothers, his in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.  Always with a smile, handshake or a wave, Mike's presence and power of positivity was undeniable.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, January 30, 2017 at 10AM at Saint Joan of Arc Church, 3357 Mendon Road, Cumberland, RI.  Burial will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.  Visiting hours Sunday from 2-5pm in the O'Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland, RI.
