Obituary

Mary Margaret "Peggy" (Kennedy) Bouffard

Peggy died peacefully in her daughter Meg's home, with family by her side, at the age of 94, on October 29, 2024.

She is survived by her four loving children, her daughters Meg McMullin of North Smithfield, Kathleen (Paul) Marshall of North Smithfield, Patricia (Rob) Overdeep of Jensen Beach, Florida, and her son, John (Tim Knapp) of Dummerston, Vermont. She also leaves four grandchildren, Meghan (Will Edwards) Overdeep, Kyle (Beth) Overdeep, Katie McMullin, Connor McMullin, and her two great grandchildren, Emerson and Vera Overdeep.

Peggy was the eldest of nine children. She is survived by four sisters, Patricia Kennedy, Susan Gaucher, Phyllis Burgess, and Sharon Canup, and many nieces and nephews. Peggy was predeceased by her husband Frederick D. Bouffard, her son, Frederick H., her son-in-law, Tim McMullin, her siblings Maureen LaChapelle, Hugh Kennedy and Sheila Kennedy, her in-laws, Carole Kennedy and Clyde Canup.

The daughter of Margaret and Hugh Kennedy, Peggy lived most of her life in Pawtucket. While there, she and her husband were active in St. Leo's parish and school, and were members of the Seekonk Swim and Tennis Club. Peggy loved coastal Rhode Island, especially Little Compton, Narragansett, and Matunick beaches. Later in life, she and her husband spent each summer in Green Hill. More recently, they lived in North Smithfield, near their children, and became congregants of St. John The Evangelist Church. Peggy also became active in the Woonsocket Senior Center, where she spent many fun afternoons, enjoying music with friends in her new community.

Peggy graduated from St. Raymond's School and St. Xavier's High School, in Providence. She became a dental assistant and then worked for American Airlines before marrying and becoming a homemaker. In mid-life, Peggy began painting in oils, watercolors, and pastels and exhibiting her work throughout Rhode Island. She became active in the Pawtucket Arts Council and opened L'Arts of Frames, a picture framing shop in Pawtucket, which was in business throughout the 1980's.

Peggy was a devoted mother and wife.  She was especially kind, patient and wise. She loved music, cooking, nature, art, sewing and crafts. Throughout her entire life, Peggy maintained her sense of wonder and joyous disposition. Her strong faith sustained her.

The family is grateful to her extraordinary and loving caregivers over the many years: Kathy Kaufman, Katie McMullin, Rita Mancini, Marion John, Lee Holfelder, Sue Mason and many staff members at Atria Lincoln Place.
