Mary Margaret Black of Pawtucket passed into eternal life on November 30, 2022. She was the wife of the late John R. Black. Mrs. Black was born in Pawtucket, the daughter of the late John J. McGuinness and Margaret Etta (Keenan) McGuinness and brother to the late John J. "Jack" McGuinness.
She had her bachelor's degree and Masters degree in Education from Rhode Island College. Mary was a school teacher for over 30 years in the Pawtucket and Attleboro School Systems. An ardent member of the Pawtucket Teacher's Union, she would delight in the reaction she would get when telling people about her prison history when she spent three days in the ACI during a teachers strike. Mary always had fond stories of meeting former students while traveling or later in life at the Tockwotton on the Waterfront retirement community. She was a devout Catholic and enjoyed serving on the women's altar guild at St. John's in Ft Lauderdale Fl and also worked as a Eucharistic Minister at St Johns and Holy Trinity Church in Harwich MA.
She is survived by her son, Kevin J. Black and his wife Diane Tani of San Francisco, California. The funeral for Mrs. Black will be Wednesday, December 7th at 9:00 am from the Costigan-O'Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, 103 Pine Street, Pawtucket at 10:00 AM. Her burial will be private, in Holy Trinity Cemetery, West Harwich, Massachusetts.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Mary's honor, to Saint Jude's Children's Hospital, or Jeanne Jugan Residence, 964 Main Street, Pawtucket, RI 02860, would be greatly appreciated.
