August 10, 2023, marked the peaceful passing of a remarkable woman, Mary (Hanna) Allcock, aged 93. Born in Pawtucket, RI, to Louis Hanna and Margaret (Arouchon) Hanna, Mary's life was an inspiring testament to love, resilience, and tenacity.
Her legacy is deeply rooted in the lives of those she touched - especially her beloved family. Predeceased by her cherished husband Robert Allcock, their love story was the stuff of legends. Their paths crossed thanks to an introduction by her brother, Samuel Hanna, who was Robert's close friend. From their union in 1959, it was evident that theirs was a love that would stand the test of time. Robert and Mary were not just life partners; they were soulmates. Their bond remained unbroken until Robert's passing in 2005, with Mary steadfastly by his side.
Her devotion wasn't limited to her marriage; she was an anchor for her family. She leaves behind two devoted children and their spouses, whom Mary also loved like her own children. Roberta (Allcock) Steinle, her husband David and Steven Allcock, and his loving wife Nadine Higgins. The joy of her heart was always her three grandchildren, Ryan and his loving companion Emily, Ashton, and Kendall, who were the fortunate recipients of her love, wisdom, and the stories of her life's adventures.
Mary was more than just a doting mother and grandmother. She was a pioneer. At a time when it was an anomaly for women to helm businesses, Mary took the reins and ran the Busy Bee Bureau. Her enterprise offered essential secretarial services to small businesses across Rhode Island and Massachusetts. It wasn't just a business to her; it was a testament to her determination, foresight, and innovative spirit.
Those who knew Mary will remember her for her grace, determination, and unfaltering love for her family. Her story, of love and determination, will continue to inspire and guide all those she left behind. Her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hope Health (Hospice), who were wonderful in caring for her as she neared the end.
Rest in peace, Mary. You've left an indelible mark on this world.
