Marie Walsh, 98, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. She was the wife of the late John E. Walsh. Born in Princeton, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Melburn “Curly” and E. May (Lovegrove) Kipp. Marie lived in Canada before moving to Cumberland with John in 1963.

She was a longtime parishioner of Saint Joan of Arc Church in Cumberland, and her strong Catholic faith brought her great joy and solace throughout her life. Marie was very active in the Rhode Island swimming and diving community, both as an official for USS Swimming for over twenty-five years and also as a swim coach for Sher-Le-Mon Swim Club, the Narragansett Swim League, and C.A.S.T. in the winter season. Her expertise as a diving coach kept her connected to her beloved swim community well into her 90’s. Mrs. Walsh was a Life Master bridge player and member of the A.C.B.L. Bridge Association.

She is survived by two sons, Darren A. Walsh and his wife Julia of Greenwood Village, Colorado, and Steven J. Walsh and his wife Patricia of Mashpee, Massachusetts, as well as five grandchildren, John “Jack” Walsh and his wife Katie, Ryan Walsh and his wife Meg, Colin Walsh, John C. Walsh, and Leighton Walsh. She also leaves two great-grandchildren, Madeline Marie and Finn Walsh.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 10:00 AM in Saint Joan of Arc Church, 3357 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Visiting hours are Friday March 13 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the O’Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Jimmy Fund in memory of Marie would be greatly appreciated.
