Obituary

Margaret "Peggy" Mary (Anderson) Clavin, 83, of East Providence, passed away peacefully surrounded by her daughters on February 18, 2025 after a long battle with dementia. Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Sadlier) Anderson. She was the wife of the late John Edmund Clavin Sr. to whom she was married for 30 years. She and her late husband were childhood sweethearts who grew up together on Goddard Street in Providence. John carried Peggy's books to school everyday. Together they raised four children and worked together in their family business, Clavin Millwright and Rigging, until John's untimely death in 1994.

Peggy was the loving mother of Anne Clavin of Cumberland, Colleen McMichael (Peter) of Cumberland, Jean Sjostedt (Andrew) of Chepachet, the late John Edmund Clavin, Jr. and the mother in law of Maria Vingi Bedrosian. She was the best nana to eight grandchildren, Adryanna Clavin, Peter, Benjamin, and Margaret McMichael, Lilah and Greta Sjosedt, and John lll and Mia Clavin.

She leaves behind her siblings, Anne Maher of New Hampshire, Robert Anderson of Alabama, and was preceded in death by her brother John Anderson. Peggy is also survived by her loving cousins Marion Collins, Margaret Traverso, Jeanne Giblin, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Saint Elizabeth Assisted Living in Providence, where she lived for four years. In the last six months of her life, she resided at The Loft at Linn, an assisted living facility in East Providence designed specifically for elders with dementia. Her quality of life was greatly enhanced by the exceptional care she received, and her days were filled with engaging activities, delicious meals, and a staff who truly loved each resident. The family is also deeply appreciative to Continuum Hospice Care of RI, especially Jennifer Barry, RN, and Janet Ventura, CNA, for their professionalism, compassionate care, and guidance in the final months of Peggy's life.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Funeral Service on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 2:30 PM at the O'Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 12:30 - 2:30 PM at the O'Neill Funeral Home. Her burial will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate a donation to contribute to the purchase of "pet therapy cats" specifically designed for people with dementia. Peggy found comfort in the companionship of her "cat" and the family would like to help the residents at The Loft at Linn with the purchase of more of these comforting therapy animals. A donation can be made in Peggy's memory, to Aldersbridge Communities , Office of Development, 40 Irving Avenue, East Providence RI 02914, or via Venmo to Peggy's granddaughter, Maggie McMichael, who will personally deliver the companion animals to the residents at The Loft at Linn.
