Kenneth P McDonald, 92, died on Dec. 7, 2023 at Roger Williams Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Providence, he was the son of Leo McDonald and Mary (Mason) McDonald. Ken grew up in the Fairlawn section of Pawtucket and resided in Pawtucket for 77 years spending the last 15 years in Providence. He was a 1948 graduate of West High School.
From 1952 -1954 Ken proudly served his country as a Marine during the Korean War being discharged as a Corporal.
Ken worked in the non-profit industry for years helping many charities raise money for their causes with a special affinity for hospitals and various veterans groups. Ken was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 3, Thomas Redmond Post and a Communicant at St Joseph Church in Pawtucket.
Ken was pre-deceased by his sister Eileen (McDonald) McCrystal and his brother in law Vincent McCrystal of Rumford and Narragansett, and is survived by his nieces Lynn McCrystal of Milford, CT and Suzanne (McCrystal) DeCourcy of Narragansett, and his nephews Vincent McCrystal Jr. of Cranston and Timothy McCrystal of Duxbury, MA.
Ken loved to tell stories about his life experiences and was always entertaining, witty and funny. Ken also had a natural talent at sketching people and places as his artistic doodling could be found on many envelopes, contents and pads.
The family would like to thank the staff at Roger Williams Hospital ICU for their care and compassion for Ken in his final days. In addition, the family would also like to thank all those from Nursing Placement that helped care for Ken during the past decade, as well as the always friendly Meals on Wheels staff.
Anyone who wishes to pay their respects may do so on Wednesday December 13, 2023 between 9:30 -10:00 AM at the Manning-Heffern-O'Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket. A private burial for family members at Mount Saint Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket will follow.
