Obituary

Karen A. Genereux, 66, of Cumberland passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, December 23, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Lawrence Genereux. Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Rosemary (Swirk) Fernandes.

Karen was a lifelong resident of Cumberland and a graduate of the Class of 1977 Cumberland High School. During her senior year, Karen was joyfully planning her wedding to her beloved husband, Larry. They were high school sweethearts, sharing a love that most people dream about. Reflecting on their 47 years of marriage, Karen often spoke with pride about their two beautiful daughters and three wonderful grandchildren, who were truly the light of her life.

Karen had a passion for traveling and cherished every moment spent exploring new places; however, the serene beauty of Hawaii always held a special place in her heart. Shopping trips with her daughters were a cherished tradition where they would shop until they dropped, creating lasting memories together.

Hosting gatherings at her home brought her great joy, and everyone knew that a party at the Genereux residence would be filled with laughter and happiness. Watching her grandchildren grow up was a source of immense joy for her, and one of her greatest dreams was to help pick out wedding dresses for her granddaughters, Zoie and Emma. Karen's grandson Aaron will always remember her favorite saying to him "I love you Aaron your my favorite grandson" Aaron would then reply back "Mem I'm your only grandson."

Besides her loving husband, Karen is survived by her daughters, Ashley Ferreira and her husband, Michael, and Kerri Genereux and her husband Mark Boulay. She also leaves her grandchildren, Zoie Genereux, Emma Newberg, and Aaron Ferreira, as well as her brothers, Anthony and David Fernandes. Her love for her family was evident in every moment they spent together, and she created a beautiful legacy of love and connection throughout her life. Anyone blessed to know Karen felt her golden heart and the warmth she extended to all.
