Joseph Ponte

Joseph Ponte, also known as Joe, Joey or Pai, age 59, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully at Brigham and Women’s Hospital after a long, courageous battle against cancer on Tuesday, April 28th, 2026. In his last moments, he was surrounded by family and holding both his wife and son’s hands. Joe was married to the love of his life, Iria (Pimentel) Ponte, for about 28 years and has an amazing son, Ethan Ponte. Besides his wife and son, Joe leaves behind three sisters, Ines Pacheco, Diane Saia, and Darlene Ponte-Boag. He also leaves behind many nieces' nephews and relatives. Born in Cambridge, MA, and raised in Arlington, MA, he was the son of the late Jose Ponte and Maria (Botleho) Ponte. Joe was a very family-orientated man. He always put others before himself and made sure that they were taken care of. Joe did everything in his power to ensure the people in his world were able to live comfortably. Joe worked as a truck driver in the Construction industry for 18 years, but prior to that, he had a variety of different careers, such as being a printer, bus driver, mechanic and more. Joe was a loving, hardworking, dedicated and funny man who made the world a brighter place. His presence will be eternally missed by his loved ones.

The family invites relatives and friends to Joe’s visiting hours that will be held Saturday, May 9th from 1 PM – 3:30 PM at O’Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland Rhode Island. There will be a Funeral Service held at 3:30 PM following the visiting hours. The burial will be private.
