"Joe" Reis

Joseph C. Reis, 87, of North Providence passed away on May 4, 2014. He was the loving husband of Gloria (Papini) Reis for 64 years.
Mr. Reis was born in Providence, the son of the late Joseph V. Reis and Olivia (Cardoza) Reis. He was a United States Navy Veteran of WWII. After his wife and family, music was a great love of his life. Mr. Reis began his professional career at the age of eleven, playing the saxophone, clarinet, and flute in orchestras ranging from symphonic to swing to jazz to musical theater, performing for 38 years at the Warwick Musical Theater. In addition, he was a dedicated teacher of Industrial Arts for many years at Seekonk High School until his retirement. Later in life, Mr. Reis added a new passion a�" golf. While he didn''t have a low handicap, he enjoyed the game immensely.
Mr. Reis earned degrees from Rhode Island College and the University of Connecticut. He was a member of the Providence Musicians'' Union, the Louisquisset Golf Club, and the Knights of Columbus. He was a founding member of the ARC of Blackstone Valley and a communicant of St. Anthony''s Church.
Mr. Reis leaves behind a devoted family. Besides his wife, Gloria, he is survived by his children: Sandra Reis Williams and her husband, Lawrence, of Coral Gables, FL, and Joseph P. Reis and his wife, Dale, of Stonington, CT. He also leaves five grandchildren: Courtenay Williams Irving, Grant L. Williams, Amy K. Williams M.D., Christopher J. Reis, and Andrea L. Reis. He was predeceased by his daughter, Joanne M. Reis, and his brother, Richard C. Reis.
The funeral for Mr. Reis will be Friday, May 9 at 8:00 am from the MANNING-HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony''s Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence, at 9:00 am. His burial will be in Mt. St. Mary''s Cemetery, Pawtucket. The calling hours for Mr. Reis will be Thursday from 4:00-7:00 pm in the funeral home. For online condolences, please visit www.manningheffern.com.
