Jose J. Bernardo, 86, of Seekonk, MA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Ismenia (Faria) Bernardo, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Born in Delgada, Portugal, Jose was the son of the late Fransisco and Romana (Jorge) Bernardo. He immigrated to the United States in 1965, proudly obtained his citizenship, and built a new life rooted in family, faith, and hard work. He founded Bernardo's Nursery in Seekonk, which he operated for 45 years before retiring, creating beauty and community through his love for the outdoors.

Jose was a devoted parishioner of Saint Anthony's Church in Pawtucket and a proud member of the Portuguese Social Club, where he cherished fellowship and heritage. He was also an avid soccer fan, always cheering for his favorite team and sharing the joy of the game with friends and family.

Besides his wife, Jose is survived by his children, Marie Bernardo Sousa and her husband Alan, and Jorge Bernardo and his wife Jennifer. He also leaves his grandchildren, Christian Wesolowski and his wife Stephanie, Samantha Bernardo, and Jack Bernardo. He was the brother of the late Antonio Bernardo, Manuel Bernardo, and Maria Ameransa.

The Funeral will held on Monday, December 22, 2025 at 9:00 AM from the Manning-Heffern-O'Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage St., Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are kindly welcome to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, December 22nd, at 10:00 AM in Saint Anthony Church, 32 Lawn Avenue, Pawtucket. Burial will follow at Mount Saint Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, December 21st, from 2:00 – 5:00 PM in the Manning-Heffern-O'Neill Funeral Home.
