John M. Regan, 83, passed away after a brief illness, Wednesday, October 5, 2016. He and his beloved wife of fifty-four years, Mary (Neilan) Regan, made their home in Oak Bluffs, MA. Prior to moving to Martha ' s Vineyard six years ago, they resided in Centerville, MA and raised their family in Hingham, MA. John was a communicant at Good Shepherd Parish on the Vineyard.
Born in Somerset MA on April 2, 1933, John was the proud and loving son of the late Harold and Bertha (Monarch) Regan. He was a 1955 graduate of The College of The Holy Cross where he served as the manager of the NIT Champion Crusader basketball team. After graduating, he served in the US Army. In 1995, John retired after a 40 year career at The New England Telephone Company and its successor companies. He was an avid lifelong follower of sports. He prized the Boston sport teams and will be closely following the Red Sox playoff run this Autumn.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, John M Regan and his wife Bonnie Regan; Sheila (Regan) Lucca and her husband, Anthony M. Lucca; and Barry N. Regan and his wife Kerrin Regan. He also leaves seven grandchildren; Erin, Patrick, Mark, Ryan, Stella, Brennan and Finn. John also had many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Harold and Richard Regan.
The funeral services will begin at 9:00 on Monday, October 10, 2016, at the O ' Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland, RI and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 at Saint John Vianney Catholic Church, 3069 Dimaond Hill Rd Cumberland RI. Burial will be in St Mary ' s Cemetery, Milford, MA. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, October 9, 2016, from 4:00 – 7:00 in the O ' Neill Funeral Home. Relative and friends are invited.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Martha ' s Vineyard Hospital.Saint John Vianney Church
