John Kayata, 86, of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully, Sunday, July 3, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis (Corley) Kayata. A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Mary (Echo) Kayata.
He was a graduate of Providence College and an avid fan of Friars basketball. He also enjoyed high school basketball and prided himself on having been to "every high school gym in the state".
John worked 20 years at the Providence Journal and was the Owner/Operator of Old Colony Packaging Supply company until retiring.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and summer vacations down the Cape.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Patricia Kress and her husband Andrew, Suzanne Kayata and her fiancé Scott Whitney, Michael Kayata and his wife Joyce, and Christopher Kayata and his wife Tammy. He also leaves his brother, George Kayata and six grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Mitchel Kayata, Joseph Kayata, and Helen Daneau.
His funeral will be held on Friday, July 8th at 9 AM from the Costigan-O'Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket, RI followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Teresa's Church, 358 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket. The burial will be private.
Visiting hours are on Thursday from 4-7 PM in the Costigan-O'Neill Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John Kayata may be made to the Parkinson Foundation , 200 SE 1 st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131; or to Joslin Diabetes Center , One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.
