Obituary

John David Francis

John David Francis, a lifelong resident of Pawtucket and Seekonk, passed away on January 10, 2026 after a life devoted to service, leadership, and community.

David was a graduate of Saint Raphael Academy and the University of Rhode Island, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Insurance. Following college and a service commitment, he began his professional career at M.J. Gallagher Insurance Agency in Pawtucket. He later co-founded Insurance Specialists, Ltd. and became a partner and Vice President of Shove Insurance Agency, where he built a respected career marked by integrity, professionalism, and dedication.

David was deeply committed to civic and community service. He was an active member of the Alumni Associations of Saint Raphael Academy and the University of Rhode Island and served as Past President and State Director of the Pawtucket Jaycees. He was Past President and a Board Director of the Stonehurst Manor Condominium Association in North Conway, New Hampshire, and a member of the Pawtucket Lions Club. He also served on the Memorial Hospital Corporation Board and as a Past Director of the Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce.

In Seekonk, David served as Vice Chair of the Town of Seekonk Finance Committee and as a member of the Seekonk Library Board of Directors. His passion for supporting youth was evident through his longtime service as a coach for the Darlington American League and Seekonk Little League, as well as his role on the Board of Directors for the Pawtucket Boys & Girls Club.

In recognition of his lifelong dedication to young people and philanthropy, David received the Boys & Girls Club of America National Service to Youth Award, the Outstanding Partner in Philanthropy Award, and a Service to Youth Citation from the City of Pawtucket.

David's love for Seekonk and its residents was never more evident than when he and a group of like-minded community members founded Doorways Food Pantry 25 years ago. What began as a shared commitment to helping neighbors in need grew into a vital community resource. Over the past 25 years, Doorways has provided food to more than 800 families, served thousands of individuals, and distributed over 1.9 million pounds of food. In 2025 alone, Doorways supported more than 2,500 shopping visits and served 5,500 individuals—at no cost to the neighbors it serves.

Doorways Food Pantry stands as David Francis's enduring legacy—a testament to his belief that communities are strongest when neighbors care for one another.

David was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ann Francis. He is survived by his sons, Matthew J. Francis of Florida and Shayne Francis of Florida; his grandchildren, Taylor, Joie, and Jude Francis, all of Florida; his sisters, Elaine F. Weathers of Conway, New Hampshire, and Leslie F. Kolkowski of Blythewood, South Carolina; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to calling hours on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Manning-Heffern-O'Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Funeral services will be private.

David will be remembered for his generosity, leadership, and unwavering belief in giving back. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the communities he helped shape.
