Obituary

John Paul Coppolino, 70, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 27, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Jill Richardson Coppolino. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Dominic and Phyllis (DeLuca) Coppolino.

John attended Classical High School where he excelled in football and track and field, earning induction into the Athletic Hall of Fame. He graduated from CCRI before a successful career as an Electronic Engineer at Xerox Corporation, where he dedicated 37 years of service.  In his earlier years, John bartended at the Alpine Country Club in Cranston, RI where he was known for his heavy hand and his charismatic charm.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his three sons, Michael of San Francisco, CA, Mark, and Philip. John also leaves his siblings, Benedict of Worcester, MA, Thomas, Nina, Anthony and his wife Patricia of Arlington, VA and five nieces and nephews.

John found joy in life's simple pleasures – a breeze off Narragansett Bay; a Martini in one hand, a cigar in the other; a walk on the beach at dusk; an afternoon on the golf links; feasts on the patio; living room fireside gatherings; beach vacations; woodworking in his shop; and relaxing with his favorite music.  John was laughter and kindness, the host who brought family and friends together, the guy who came over to help out or fix something – often with a box of pastry.  Most of all, John lived with the deepest love for Jill, his sons, his brothers and sister, nieces and nephews, and his many devoted friends.  A remarkable man of faith, John now rests in the arms of the Lord, his suffering eased, and his spirit in the hearts of all who loved him dearly.

Family and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 3rd at 10 AM, in St. Joan of Arc Church, 3357 Mendon Rd, Cumberland. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday, May 2nd from 4PM to 7PM in the O'Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Rd., Cumberland.

In lieu of flowers a donation in John's memory may be made to Children's Friend , 153 Summer Street in Providence, RI 02903.
