Joanne "Jodi" Irene Stanley, 69, of Clearwater FL and formerly of Pawtucket and Cumberland RI, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Saturday, January 6, 2024.
Jodi was the beloved daughter of the late Dorothy (Gately) Stanley and John Stanley. She leaves behind 6 loving siblings, Merry Caswell of South Kingstown, Johnny (Lori) Stanley of Greenville, Brian Stanley of Chepachet, Mark Stanley of North Attleboro, Jane (John) Larson of Pawtucket and Joe Stanley of North Providence. She also leaves behind 9 cherished nieces and nephews: Matthew, Courtney, Alicia and Emily Caswell, Andrew (Lyndsey), Olivia, and Ally Larson and Dan (Nikki) and Lauren McKay and a great-nephew, Ivan McKay. She was a loving aunt and a wonderful Godmother to Matt Caswell, Andrew Larson and Jamie Grieser. She had a special bond with her own Godmother, Barbara (Geary) Kelly, that continued throughout her life. Lastly, she leaves a long list of good friends, but none more special than her best friend, Pat (Glynn) Manchester.
She is pre-deceased by her parents, her oldest sister, Mary, brother-in-law Larry Caswell, and nephews Rory and Ryan Caswell.
Jodi came in with bang, as she was born in the middle of Hurricane Carol on August 31, 1954. She lived her life with great joy and many passions. She was a proud graduate of Tolman High School Class of 1972, helping to coordinate their reunions. In 1976, she graduated from Rhode Island College, with a degree in Education and Art History, where she was a wrestling cheerleader. She started her career at Ann & Hope, serving as the book department buyer and becoming close with the owners, Sam & Eszter Chase, whose daughters, Elizabeth (Greiser) and Andrea, she babysat. She remained close with the family all her life. She went on to work at Dunn & Bradstreet and then as a marketing/trade show coordinator for several software companies including Cadre Technologies and Raptor. In 2000, she went back to teaching and served as an art teacher and yearbook advisor at several Pawtucket schools. Miss Stanley was beloved by her students as she encouraged them to draw outside the lines and expand their creativity. She was honored in 2018 with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her work with the RI Art Education Association and was devoted to helping the next generation of art teachers. She was a former member of the Cumberland Gardening Club, and volunteered in many youth activities, including cheerleading and CYO.
She retired in 2020 to Clearwater Florida as she loved the Tampa Bay area. She couldn't have asked for a better community to retire to and built a new family among her condo neighbors.
Jodi loved many things: art and museums, classic films, British mysteries, the news and weather, maps, Boston sports teams (especially the NE Patriots), the Olympics, photography, history, all things Christmas, and time spent with family and friends, especially her annual trip to Block Island and attending the sporting events of her many nieces and nephews. She loved to shop and occasionally hit the slot machines and won! She travelled extensively, including Mexico, Aruba, London, Paris, Monaco, Greece, California and most recently, a Mediterranean Cruise to Spain, France and Italy in fall of 2023 that was on her bucket list. She was a gifted seamstress and talented artist, often designing dresses or home décor for family and friends. She enjoyed road trips and had a keen sense of direction! There was always something happening in Jodi's car!
She fought a brave, two-year battle against bile duct cancer, showing tremendous grace under pressure and managing her journey independently. She was a loving daughter, wonderful sister, good friend and fabulous aunt and godmother who will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Her family wishes to thank the staff at Moffitt Cancer Center, especially her PA Trenton Avriett, and the Hope Health Hospice for their tender care and support, as well as her brother John, sister-in-law Lori, and niece Lauren for opening their home and providing loving care these past few weeks.
Family and friends are kindly invited to calling hours on Friday, January 12th, from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Manning-Heffern-O'Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 13th at 9:00 AM at St. Teresa of the Child Jesus Church, 358 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket RI.
