Jane Alice (O'Neill) Couture passed away peacefully on September 7, 2023. Her husband of 66 years, Philip Couture and her family were by her side.
Jane was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island to John and Mary O'Neill. She grew up in a large Irish Catholic family consisting of 8 brothers and 3 sisters: Josephine (Dr. John) O'Brien, Mary (Maurice) Donovan, Dr. John (Norma) O'Neill, Thomas (Agnes) O'Neill, William (Leslie) O'Neill, Vincent (Joan) O'Neill, Nancy O'Neill, Robert (Stephanie) O'Neill, Joseph (Joan) O'Neill, Paul (Dolores) O'Neill, and Raymond (Betty) O'Neill.
Jane married Philip Couture of Cumberland RI and they raised four children: Paul, Suzanne, David, and Peter. Jane and Phil moved several times over the years but absolutely loved the RI shore. They made their home in Jamestown RI for over 20 years before moving to Scottsdale Arizona to be closer to their children.
When raising her family, Jane could be seen with her four kids romping around the pool and tennis courts at Abbott Run Swim Club. She loved playing tennis and was a huge tennis fan long after she could no longer play herself. When Phil's job required that they move to another state, Jane was eager for the next adventure of getting to know each new area and meeting new friends. Over the years, Jane and Phil got to know their way around NY City, Washington DC, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and finally Scottsdale.
Family was extremely important to Jane. Even when living away from Rhode Island, Jane took every opportunity to visit her brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. She had special relationships with each of her eleven siblings and their families. Jane and Phil were happiest when family and friends were around enjoying their homemade Rhode Island clam chowder and clams casino at their Jamestown home. She was always ready for a game of cards with her favorite being high stakes "Scat" for one dollar per player, which she usually won. Jane and Phil loved sitting on their deck with views of Newport bridge, sipping a glass of wine, and watching the boats go by in the bay.
Jane will be dearly missed, but she lives on through her husband Philip, her son Paul, and his wife Robin (Philip, Kristin, Dakota, Cody), daughter Suzanne Cooper, and her husband Don (Nicole, Sean), son David and his girlfriend, Mina Briggs, and David's former spouse Stacey (Mason, Sheridan), son Peter, and his wife Anne (Callyn, John), her brother Joseph O'Neill, sister-in-law Leslie O'Neill, sister-in-law Dolores O'Neill, sister-in-law Betty O'Neill and many nieces and nephews.
