Jan A. Charchafliah, 83, of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Wednesday, March 1, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Helene (Tibursky) Charchafliah. Born in Omdurman, Sudan to Syrian parents Antoun and his wife Nacima, Jan immigrated to Germany to study to become an automotive mechanic. Jan worked for Mercedes and BMW, but he specialized and was certified as a VW Mechanic.
After immigrating to the United States to join his family, he married and is survived by his current wife Helene, by one brother in Cumberland, one sister in Sydney, Australia, one sister in Florida, one sister in Pawtucket, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother and one sister.
Jan worked as a telephone technician for Alltek, Ltd., and Atlas Music Corporation in Providence until his retirement. He enjoyed being out on the ocean fishing, being outdoors, and ballroom dancing. Jan was a member of St. Basil the Great Church since 1966, a member of The Fraternal Order of Police Association (FOPA) for over 20 years, and a member of the Elks Club. He spoke several languages and was a member of the Volkswagen Guild Service as a Certified Technician.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Liturgy of Christian Burial on Thursday, March 9 th at 10:00 AM in Saint Basil the Great Church, 15 Skyview Drive, Lincoln. Burial will follow in Saint Basil's Cemetery, Cumberland.
Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
In lieu of flowers donations to St. Basil's Building Fund in memory of Jan would be greatly appreciated.
