Jim Walker, 68 years young, tragically passed away in Sacramento, CA. Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late John and Shirley (Jackson) Walker. He is survived by his sisters Susan Leeming of Colorado and Judith Barlow of Rhode Island. He is uncle to nephews Ian Leeming and Timothy Barlow, niece Jennifer Barlow, and three great nephews and a great niece. He relocated to California in the 1980s.
Jim received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rhode Island and Master of Viticulture from the University of California, Davis. Upon graduation, he worked for the world-famous Stags Leap Winery in Napa. Jim formed Napa-Sonoma Vineyard Group and tended to the grapes throughout Napa and Sonoma Valleys for a multitude of growers, including his own vineyard in the Carneros region of Sonoma. He partnered with his dear friend and companion, Eric Glunt, to make award-winning Eric K. James wines.
Upon retirement, Jim was involved with many projects to improve the lives of people with disabilities, immigrants and the homeless. Gifted with many talents, Jim always pursued life with passion and a dream. He was a kind and generous soul who saw the good in all he met. His loss is greatly felt by his many friends and family, and he will be missed.
There will be a private funeral and burial in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery. A Celebration of Life is being planned to take place in April.
