James F. Queenan, Jr., of Cumberland, RI, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, July 17, 2025, his 73rd birthday. He was the beloved husband of Denise (Hamel) Queenan for 51 years. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late James and Genevieve (McNall) Queenan. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his cherished children, Stephen Queenan (Margaret Stookey-Queenan) and Pamela Barcello (Matthew Barcello), and his adored grandchildren, Leo and Stella Barcello. He leaves his brother, Keith Queenan (Laura Queenan), and he was the brother of the late Kenneth Queenan (Cheryl Queenan-Downes). He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Diane Larue (Michael Larue), and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Jim took great pride in his 32-year career with the Rhode Island Public Defender's Office, where he served as an attorney until his retirement in 2015. He dedicated his career to advocating for the elderly, children, and those without means, championing justice for society's most vulnerable.

A passionate Boston sports fan, Jim spent many joyful years coaching his children's teams, umpiring local games, and cheering on his grandchildren from the sidelines. Jim treasured his winters in Barefoot Bay, Florida, where he enjoyed time with his brother and friends, cruising in his golf cart, taking in live music, and embracing the lively, social atmosphere he loved so much.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM in Saint John Vianney Church, 3609 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 23rd, from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the O'Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland.
