James Gerald Hennigan, 87, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday July 23, 2025. He was the beloved husband of the late Frances A. (Spry) Hennigan. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late William Hennigan and Mary (Fitzgerald) Hennigan.
James was an electric engineer for a military contractor for many years prior to retiring. He was a coach for the Cumberland Public Skating Association, a goalie, twice a week for the Rhody Oldies until his death, and a member of the East Greenwich Yacht Club. He fulfilled his lifelong dream of purchasing his boat, "SeaJai" and spending his spare time on it. He also was an avid woodworker and made the basement into a shop for his projects.
James is survived by his two children James Hennigan Jr. and Mary Skalko, her husband Michael, and his three grandchildren Ian Skalko, Seamus Hennigan and Jason Skalko. James leaves behind his brother William Hennigan. He was the brother of the late Edward Hennigan and Mary Lou Duray.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, August 1, 2025 at 10:00 AM in Saint Joan of Arc Church, 3357 Mendon Rd., Cumberland. Burial will be private.
Visiting hours Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the O'Neill Funeral Home located at 3102 Mendon Rd. Cumberland.
