James E. DeGuilio, 96, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 25, 2024. He was the devoted husband of the late Madeleine (Truchon) DeGuilio, married for 64 incredible years. Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late James and Anna (Connolly) DeGuilio. Jim was also a brother to Mary Quinn (Joseph) and Edward "Ted" DeGuilio (Meredith).
Upon graduating St. Raphael Academy, Jim joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Philippines during WWII.
After the war, most of his working life was spent with the Gilbane Building Company. There he climbed his way to becoming a superintendent of various jobs for 38 years.
He is survived by his two children, son James P. DeGuilio (Gail) and daughter Gail Valentine. Jim was also blessed with four loving grandchildren, James, Sarah, John, Julie, as well as six great-grandchildren.
Jim was famous for his smile, but loved for his heart.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 1st, at 10:00 AM in St. Joan of Arc Church, 3357 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Visiting hours are Thursday, February 29th, from 4:00-7:00 PM in the O'Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland, RI. The burial will follow at Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, 661 Prospect Street, Pawtucket, immediately following the Mass.
A donation in Jim's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105, would be greatly appreciated.
