Obituary

George J. Lacouture, Jr., of Lincoln, RI, cherished father, grandfather, brother and friend, died on May 13, 2025. He was born February 13, 1942, in Woonsocket and lived most of his life there. He graduated La Salle Academy and then completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Providence College.

George dedicated much of his life to public service, working in the Woonsocket Education Department for 40 years, retiring in June 2004 and holding multiple positions throughout the community. He was a teacher and Mathematics Department Head at Woonsocket High School and later an administrator for the Education Department. Mr. Lacouture was a member of the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was former president of the Woonsocket Teachers' Guild, AFT 951, a former member and Chairman of the Woonsocket Zoning Board of Review and Chairman of the Woonsocket School Committee. Mr. Lacouture was a swimming official for the RI Interscholastic Swimming Officials for 47 years. He managed Diamond Hill Cemetery for over 20 years. George was active in Democratic politics, serving on several local and district committees. He will be remembered by many – everywhere he went friends, former colleagues and students would share a "Mr. Lac!" and kind words.

George is survived by his two children, Bradford (Rebecca) Lacouture of Needham, MA and Meaghan (Joseph) Paliotta of Seekonk, MA and grandchildren, Benjamin and Braxton Lacouture and Maeve Paliotta.  He also leaves behind by his sister Donna Gaudreau of Arizona, brothers Joseph [Jay] (Patricia) Lacouture of Carolina, RI and John Lacouture of Arden, NC and his sister-in-law, Ruth Lacouture.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Heather Taryn Lacouture, his brother, Thomas Lacouture, and his parents George J. and Marietta Lacouture Sr.

A funeral mass will be held at Emmanual Episcopal Church, 120 Nate Whipple Highway, Cumberland, on Friday, May 23rd, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Emmanual Episcopal Church Capital Fund or the Alzheimer's Foundation.
