Gary J. Patras, 66, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Thursday, June 18, 2026 after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Rita (Lepore) Patras. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Frederick and Pauline (Gadoury) Patras. Gary was employed as a laser welder for many years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his siblings, Frederick Patras Jr. and his wife Beth, James Patras, Kathleen Robert and her companion, Peter, and Cindy Gauvin her husband Bruce. He also leaves his stepchildren, Nicole Pare and Heather Baril, and his grandchildren, Andrew, Devin, Riley, Peter, Julia, Zachary, Khaleesi, and Caleb. He was the brother-in-law of the late Richard Robert Sr.
Gary was a home brewer and took immense pride in making his own beer. Gary was also an avid New England Sports fan and would never miss a New England Patriots or Boston Bruins game. On game day, you would be sure to find him on the couch watching the game with a beer in his hand. To everyone that knew him, Gary was a positive light and the kindest and most selfless person. He was a loving and devoted husband and cherished the time he spent with family, especially his grandchildren. He touched countless lives and left a lasting impression that will live on forever.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center for their extraordinary care and compassion.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Funeral Service on Monday, June 29, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the O’Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, June 28th from 3:00 - 6:00 PM in the O’Neill Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hope Health Hospice, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI, 02904, in memory of Gary, would be greatly appreciated.
