Obituary

Frederick A. Kanakry passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 18 th at the age of 77. Fred was born and raised in Pawtucket, lived for many years in Providence, West Warwick and most recently resided in Johnston with his family. Fred was the beloved husband of Doris (Lynch) Kanakry since 1967. In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by his daughter Jennifer Faria and her husband Tony, his grandchildren Jacob Faria and his companion Shonna Carlson, and Kathryn Faria. He also had a great love for his grand-dog, Cleopatra.

Fred was the son of the late Samuel and Eugenie (Dyck) Kanakry, and brother of the late Samuel Kanakry Jr. and his wife Gloria. He is survived by his brothers, John Kanakry and his wife Elva, Michael Kanakry, and his wife Joanne. He was the brother-in-law of Richard and Marge White, and son-in-law of the late Raymond and Elizabeth (Bessie Rodina) Lynch. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Anywhere Fred went, he would run into someone who remembered him and his brothers from Sam's Market, at the corner of Weeden Street and Lonsdale Avenue in Pawtucket. He loved interacting with all types of people and had an endless supply of stories from when he owned the market with his brothers. After selling the market and focusing on his insurance business, he was always thrilled when someone would ask if he was one of the "Kanakry's from Pawtucket."  He was also actively involved in the St. Vincent de Paul Society – Branch of Damascus and loved being a part of the Tolman High School Class of '62 reunion committee.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, February 23 rd at 10 AM, in Blessed Sacrament Church, 179 Academy Avenue, Providence. Burial will follow in Saint Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours are on Tuesday from 4-7 PM in the Costigan-O'Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket.
