Eviginia Skodras, 96, a lifelong resident of Pawtucket, but most recently Coventry, where she resided with her daughter, Catherine and son-in-law Raymond, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, December 26, 2021, on what would have been her son's 75th birthday. She was the wife of the late Nicholas Skodras.
Born in Thessaloniki (Salonika), Greece, she came to America in 1927 through Ellis Island, and as a working adult with a family, became a graduate of Tolman High School. She was the daughter of the late Rigas and Catherine Papagolos. Eviginia owned and operated with her late husband the former Nick's Lunch in Pawtucket for many years before retiring. "Ginny" was a devout Orthodox Christian, cantor, choir and Philoptochos member, Senior Companion, and VA Medical Center volunteer for over 25 years. She also volunteered as a Slater Mill tour guide. She was the proud recipient of the St. John of Damascus award presented by His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios in recognition of her outstanding service to her church, which her entire life was centered around. She enjoyed ceramics, knitting, gardening, but mostly singing. She had the voice of an angel.
She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Girard and her husband Raymond. She also leaves two grandchildren, Alexandria McNamara, husband Jonathan and Philip Bio, fiancé Dr. Natalia Habibi, and her great grandson, Elijah Nicholas McNamara. She was the mother of the late Christy Skodras.
A special expression of gratitude to the staff of Cornerstone Adult Day in Warwick, where Ginny attended for several years, and was treated with the utmost care and respect.
