Evelyn M. Fugere, 100, of Cumberland RI, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Tuesday, June 24, 2025. She was the wife of the late Clarence Fugere. Born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Keilberg) Dorn. Evelyn was an Army Veteran of World War II.
Evelyn was a resident of Cumberland for most of her life, most recently at Chapel Hill Senior Living. She worked at Texas Instruments while also raising her family, retiring in 1987. She was also a school crossing guard for Cumberland Hill Elementary School for many years with her faithful poodle MiMi by her side. After retirement she and her husband of 58 years travelled around the US camping and sightseeing finally settled in McAllen TX for several years as snowbirds. After her husband passed, she returned to Cumberland and settled at Chapel Hill. She enjoyed listening to country music, playing bingo and hi low jack but she loved winning at hi low jack. She participated in two Honor Flight trips to Washington DC as a WWII Army Veteran. One of the flights being first ALL Female Honor Flights. She had many friends among the residents and staff at Chapel Hill and well loved.
She is survived by her children, Darlene Reilly and husband Tony of Cumberland RI, Karen Thomas of Chippewa Falls WI, Wayne Fugere and wife Elizabeth of Bella Vista AR, eight grandchildren, Nicole (Reilly) Desmarais, Brittany Reilly, Sean Krys, Shane Fugere, Cory Fugere, Allison (Fugere) Moore, Daniel Fugere, Amy (Fugere) Newton, seventeen great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Robert Fugere and the sister of the late Charles Dorn, Arthur Dorn, and Robert Dorn.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Funeral Service on Thursday, June 26th at 6:00 PM in the O'Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Visiting hours are on Thursday, prior to the service, from 4:00- 6:00 PM, in the O'Neill Funeral Home.
The burial will be private.
