Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" (Gibbons) McCormick, a resident of Cumberland for over 60 years, died in Providence on February 26, 2025. Married for 62 years, she was the beloved wife of the late Patrick D. McCormick. Betty was the devoted mother of five children, Monica (John) McDougall of Cumberland, Robyn (Curtis) Graham of Amherst, New Hampshire, Michael (Debra) McCormick of Coventry, Maureen (John Picone) McCormick of Hollister, California and Elizabeth (Robert) Harrison of North Andover, Massachusetts. She adored her thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Born in Providence on February 27, 1935, she was the only child of Robert and Yvette (LaTour) Gibbons. Betty attended Bay View and St. Xavier Academies before becoming a dental hygienist. After her marriage, she devoted herself to raising her children and supporting them in all their endeavors.  She and Patrick were excellent dancers. Betty had a beautiful singing voice. She had many cherished friends and regularly met with her "Coffee Group" for over 40 years. Betty was a devout parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Church in Cumberland. She prayed the rosary daily.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Friday, March 7, 2025 at 10:00 AM in Saint Joan of Arc Church, 3357 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial will be private. Visiting hours Thursday, March 6th from 4:00 - 7:00 PM in the O'Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hope Health Hospice Center , 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI, 02904, in memory of Betty would be greatly appreciated.
