Eleanor A. Leonard

Eleanor Leonard, 92, of Barrington and formerly of Cumberland, entered eternal life on January 23, 2026. She was the loving wife of the late Alfred G. Leonard, Sr. Born in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late Peter J. Donovan and Annie V. Nicholson. Eleanor grew up in Mattapan, MA with her six siblings. She attended St. Gregory's School, and graduated from Emmanuel College in 1955, with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. She went on to work in the first computer laboratory at MIT, and later at Brown University.

Eleanor married in 1959, and moved to Cumberland, RI, where she raised her four children with her husband Alfred. She was predeceased by her siblings, John, Mary, Peter, Isabella, Thomas, and Francis.

Eleanor is survived by her four children, Elizabeth and her husband Paul Hendriks of Wakefield, MA, Ann Marie and her husband Chris Isleib of Barrington, RI, Alfred Jr. and his wife Maria Meomartino Leonard of Whitinsville, MA, and Emerson Leonard and his wife Mylie of Barrington, RI. Since the year 2000, Eleanor, Grandma Ellie (aka G-MA), has spent countless hours with her treasured grandchildren: Luke, Willem, and Nathan Hendriks of Wakefield, MA, River Isleib of Barrington, RI, Nolan and Claudia Leonard of Barrington, RI.

Eleanor lived a life rooted in love for family, faith in God, and service to her community - most notably people with special needs. She is fondly remembered for her positive and engaging presence, her sense of adventure, and her willingness to embrace new and joyful experiences. Her optimistic and resilient spirit, grounded in a steadfast faith in God, and all that is good, shone throughout her long life.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM in St. Joan of Arc Church, 3357 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Calling hours will be held Saturday, prior to the Mass, from 9:00 - 10:30 AM, in the O'Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland. A private burial will be held in Milton Cemetery, MA.
