Eleanor G. Bucko, 101, of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side Saturday, February 26, 2022. She was the wife of the late Walter J. Bucko. Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Elena (Mulholland) Bushee. Eleanor graduated from what is now Tolman High School and attended business school where she majored in bookkeeping. She was a bookkeeper at Greenhaugh Mills and then former RI Prescription Center in Pawtucket for forty years, retiring in 1990.
Eleanor was a volunteer at Memorial Hospital for over 30 years, where she accumulated over 15,000 hours. She greeted visitors at the front desk and also served as a liaison between patients and nurses in the Emergency Department. In 2014, a private family consultation room, in the Emergency Department, was named in her honor.
Eleanor was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Parish in Pawtucket. She volunteered at various Church events (bingo, bazaars). She was a member of the St. Joseph and St. Cecilia's Senior Citizens group and past president of Pleasant View Seniors. Eleanor enjoyed playing cards, golfing, knitting, puzzles, and traveling with her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, James Bucko, Sr. of Florida, Eileen Stratton of Narragansett, David Bucko of Pawtucket, and Joan McConaghy of Seekonk. Eleanor has 10 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Henry and William Bushee.
Eleanor was devoted to her family and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She attended every sacrament, graduation, and sporting event possible. She embraced technology. At the age of 100, she was using the latest iPhone and iPad. She enjoyed playing games and checking Facebook posts where she could follow what was going on with her growing family. She lived a full life and will be deeply missed
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Monday, March 7 th at 10 AM, Saint Joseph Church of the Holy Family Parish, 195 Walcott Street, Pawtucket. Burial will follow in Mount Saint Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours are Sunday from 1-4 PM in the Costigan-O'Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket. In lieu of flowers, donations to VNA of Care New England, 51 Health Lane, Warwick, RI, 02886, in memory of Eleanor, would be appreciated.
