Edwina M. Babiec, 90, formerly of Pawtucket, RI and North Attleboro, MA passed peacefully on August 18, 2026 at Tockwotton on the Waterfront, East Providence, RI. Edwina was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Peter F. Babiec, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Dianne M. Dalton and her husband Daniel of Rehoboth, MA and Susan C. Goodwin and her husband Charlie of Pittsburgh, PA. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Peter Timothy, Alexander and Kate Goodwin. Born in Brooklyn, NY to Edward and Adeline Gugel, she graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Pawtucket and Rhode Island College of Education. She was the oldest of 6 siblings and leaves behind her brother, Edward (Judy) Gugel Jr. and sister, Mary (Dennis) Martins. Edwina now joins her deceased sisters, Helen LaFreniere, Anna (Dave) Lucas, and Dianne Gugel.
Edwina devoted her life to teaching elementary school, primarily fourth and fifth grade at North School, Seekonk. She loved being a teacher and after her retirement, she returned to serve as a substitute teacher until she was in her 80s. She was also actively involved in many organizations, most notably the Pawtucket Community Players for over 50 years where she and her husband volunteered for decades as chairs of membership and reservations. She was also a long-time communicant of St. Leo the Great Church in Pawtucket, RI and St. Mark’s Parish in North Attleboro, MA.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Edwina’s son-in-law, Daniel Dalton, whose constant care, kindness, and assistance enriched her life immeasurably over the past several decades.
A devoted wife, loving mother, adored grandmother and beloved sister, Edwina’s kindness and gentleness will be missed by all.
Edwina’s family would like to thank every individual who works at Tockwotton on the Waterfront for the love and compassion she received throughout the eight years that she called Tockwotton home.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Saint Margaret Church, 1098 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. Burial will follow in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, August 23rd from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at Manning-Heffern-O’Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Edwina may be made to the Edwina M. and Peter F. Babiec Memorial Scholarship for first-generation RIC college students or Tockwotton on the Waterfront Employee Enrichment Programin appreciation of the outstanding and compassionate care she received from every person at Tockwotton.
