Known for her wit, sense of humor, and generosity, Edna Therese Leddy (THERESA) formerly of Pawtucket and Yarmouth Port, MA, passed away in Brewster, MA on December 3, 2024, eight days shy of her 98th birthday. Born in Pawtucket RI on December 11, 1926, she was the daughter of Omer and Edna (L"Heureux) Tougas. She was raised and educated in the City of Pawtucket, graduating from Tolman High School in 1944. She was the eldest in her family followed by four brothers. It was always she who was the ring leader supplying schemes for her brothers to carry out, such as painting their father's car with sticks when they were all in grammar school.
She was a legal secretary for many years until she had a family of her own. She and her husband owned a business in Rhode Island and together they also owned and operated a successful seasonal business of housekeeping cottages on Cape Cod for almost 30 years. In her later years, she returned to Cape Cod full time.
She was a legend among family and friends for her letter writing skills and the embellishments she would add to the envelopes. She corresponded with people across the US and Canada up to the time of her passing. She also was an avid reader and enjoyed travelling to other countries. She volunteered with the elderly at the Little Sisters of the Poor in Pawtucket for 15 years. She was a favorite among the residents, accompanying them to outings, telling jokes, and performing in skits. Her volunteering goal was to make the residents laugh and bring them joy. She would have several of the residents to her summer home every year for a cookout and a trip to the beach.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph T. Leddy Jr. and her son-in-law William Henry Yaeger III. She is survived by Ellen Leddy of Alexandria VA, and Terri Leddy and her husband Patrick Fitzgerald of Brewster. She was a loving and beloved grandmother to 2 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren who called her Tete. She is also survived by her brother Richard of Sarasota FL, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Theresa will always be remembered for her infectious laugh, ability to spin a tall tale and her deep abiding love for her family. Year after year, she dominated the family Thanksgiving talent contest. She will be a tough act to follow. No one could have asked for a better wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend or colleague.
She will be greatly missed by those that knew her.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Teresa's Church, 358 Newport Avenue in Pawtucket RI, on December 10th at 11:00 AM. This will be followed by interment at Mount St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Theresa's name may be made to The Little Sisters of the Poor, Jeanne Jugan Residence , 964 Main Street, Pawtucket RI 02860.
