Diane M. Leclerc, 69, of North Smithfield, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, December 22, 2024. She and her husband Bernard were married for 49 years. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Normand and Juliette (Lessard) Cournoyer.
Diane worked for the US Postal Service for many years, before retiring some 10 years ago. Diane also was a talented florist, working over the years in various flower shops with the most recent being Lincoln Gardens. Diane had many other hobbies and interests over the years including gardening, pottery making, knitting and cooking. She could make comfort food and French-Canadian dishes like no other. Diane also spent a lot of recent time in Vermont, which included owning land in the beautiful town of Craftsbury. Diane enjoyed spending time in the Northeast Kingdom with her husband and other family members, and had a true enthusiasm and passion for the area. She would repeatedly point out the views as she went on car rides, or while she simply stood on the porch her husband had built with ease.
Diane took pride in, and loved who she was surrounded by. She marveled in her husband's woodworking skills and commitment to family, as well as the talents and type of men both of her son's had become. Her son's will miss their mom, but will always have the deepest gratitude and appreciation for the sacrifices that "Di and Ben" made for them. She was the biggest fan of her granddaughter's report cards, personalities and athletic skills, and she also spoke lovingly about being surrounded by close family members and friends as she lived through the years.
Besides her husband Bernard, she is survived by her children, John Leclerc (Alison) and grandchildren Sarah and Katelyn of Rotterdam, NY, and Aaron Leclerc of Newton, MA. She also leaves her siblings, Gerald Cournoyer (Kathleen), Muriel Picard (Arthur) and Denis Cournoyer, as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends who she surely loved. Diane is also predeceased by her sister Helene Mastrianni (Michael) and brother David Cournoyer.
Diane called some of her family members and friends "angels" as the last couple of years progressed.
