Charles Thomas Cunningham, 85, of Pawtucket, and recently of Chapel Hill Assisted Living in Cumberland, a retired Detective Lieutenant of the Rhode Island State Police (#42) passed away on June 28, 2023, at Hope Health Hospice in Providence. He was the husband of the late, and forever courageous and loving, Jacqueline Rita (Plante) Cunningham for forty-eight years. Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late Charles H. (Central Falls Police Dept., Retired) and Margaret (Pryor) Cunningham. He graduated from Pawtucket East High School in 1955 and was a United States Air Force Veteran serving from 1955 to 1959. He lived in Pawtucket for over 55 years. He joined the Rhode Island State Police in 1961, served at all barracks across the state, earned numerous commendations, and retired with the rank of Detective Lieutenant in 1986.

He leaves two sons, Attorney Patrick Kelly Cunningham, and Steven Charles Cunningham (Cumberland Police Dept., Retired) and his wife Ann (Michalczyk) Cunningham (North Kingston Police Dept., Retired). Charlie also leaves the reason for his smile and his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Kayla Ann Coyle and her husband Ryan, Kyle Ian Cunningham and his partner Matthew Vieira, and Kathryn Patricia Cunningham and her partner Frazier Hines. He also leaves the next generation that he and Jackie will forever be a part of, his great grandchildren, Connor James Coyle, and Mackenzie Ann Coyle. He was the brother of the late Arlene Harold, the late Raymond Cunningham and Bernice Tomasso. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Monday, July 3rd at 9:00 AM from the COSTIGAN-O'NEILL Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Saint Cecilia Church of Saint John Paul II Parish, 755 Central Avenue, Pawtucket. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.

Visiting hours are on Sunday, July 2nd, from 2:00-5:00 PM in the Costigan-O'Neill Funeral Home.
